Lenovo tries to make amends for SuperFish
Posted by Revactive Inc. in Security , Technology

Lenovo vows to make amends for its recent Superfish debacle. The company shipped a piece of bloatware on select notebook products that contained a security vulnerability loophole. Apparently some did not take kindly to the notion that the manufacturer would not only ship its products per-installed with a piece of software that could considered malware in some circles, but then have said software expose the owner to a potential security flaw. More extreme reactions include a possibly related hacking of the company’s website.

Lenovo responded to recent events with a promise to reduce the pre-installed bloatware shipped with their PCs and tighten up security.

“The events of last week reinforce the principle that customer experience, security and privacy must be our top priorities,” said Lenovo’s statement. “With this in mind, we will significantly reduce preloaded applications. Our goal is clear: To become the leader in providing cleaner, safer PCs. ”

They also extended the virtual olive branch by indicating that they would be offering a free 6 month subscription to McAfee’s LiveSafe service included with future purchases.

Fight bloatware with bloatware? No thank you.
